Anachroma (2022-2023) is an exploration of the power of association. “History is how you tell it,” the narrative impacts the collective memory of events.
Most of the source material for these works comes from relatives, from old boxes in basements and attics– things that were once personally significant but have since been forgotten to time. Using this catalog of found objects, I select and arrange the source material on canvas in ways that evoke a sense of curiosity and wonder.
I am an unreliable narrator. I remove and alter information to assist in the creation of the new narrative. The process of selecting and arranging is a dialogue. This mirrors the dialogue between the viewer and the work, encouraging the viewer to ask questions and draw their own connections—to suss out their own story.
Anachroma is an exploration of visual myth-making— a commentary on how we perceive narrative and an analysis of the lenses we use to view the past.
